Colt's Wild West Shootout is a proposal of Contraband Entertainment studio addressed to fans of westerns as well as fans of arcade shooting. The game is signed with the logo of Colt Firearms, a well-known American manufacturer of revolvers.

As the title suggests, Colt's Wild West Shootout was set in the Wild West at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The player plays the role of a brave sheriff who has to face the most dangerous revolvers on his own. Historical characters such as Jessie James, Clay Allison, Black Bart and Billy the Kid are among the opponents.

The game offers four not very complex levels, which should take several dozen minutes to complete. Game mechanics is based on solutions of classic rail shooters. The hero follows a marked path, stopping at further shooting ranges. The game consists in skillful use of the weapon sightscope (usually the famous Peacemaker revolver), which should be directed at the opponents appearing in different places on the screen. In doing so, the player has to show considerable perceptiveness and good reflexes in order to eliminate enemies before they can pull the trigger.

Colt's Wild West Shootout audiovisual setting leaves no doubt about the low-cost nature of the production. Two-dimensional graphics in the game are characterized by a limited color palette and clear image pixelization.
