CODE2040 is a game that follows the trend of Battle Royale games, slightly changing the formula of this type of gameplay by dividing players into 3-person teams. The game is kept in a futuristic/post-apocalyptic style, and it was developed by the Chinese WANIN Games.

Plot

The game is set in a reality where a massive natural disaster has occurred. It destroyed most of the world, but also revealed a new, previously unknown area - a realm called The Outside. This is where most of the resources needed for humanity's survival are found. The characters we play are prisoners hired by the R.D. Company. Our task is to explore the new kingdom, get rid of the threats in the designated area and then reach the control tower in time, teleporting us back to the base.

Mechanics

We start the game in CODE2040 by customizing the appearance of our character. Among the available options are settings such as gender, hairstyle, clothing, skin colour or tattoos. By default, only a few options are available within each category, while we get more as we progress through the game. When you're ready for action, select one of the available missions from the list. After connecting to the server, we go to the lobby with other players, and when the countdown ends, we are transferred by a special teleport to the map. Most of the gameplay is observed from a third-person perspective, but this can change when using the other sight.

We can freely roam the available terrain in search of weapons, additional equipment and sources of energy. Apart from standard weapons and equipment such as first-aid kits and backpacks, we also have special tools at our disposal called SOMA Ball. Each of them works in a different way, determining our role in the team. So they can heal our companions, give them extra cover or scan the environment for enemies.

In addition to hostile prisoners controlled by other players, in the game world we also meet monsters controlled by AI. Due to their high resistance and strength, they are much more dangerous than human enemies, so it is sometimes worth resigning from attacking other teams to fight them together.

The last threat, of course, is the shrinking area of action. If you don't get to a safe zone in the time limit, you will die and be out of the competition.

Game modes

CODE2040 features only multiplayer mode, no single player mode is available. The number of players in each game varies depending on the chosen game mode and can reach up to 54 people playing on one server.
