Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is an original mix of action game and a turn-based strategy developed by the Japanese studio Intelligent Systems. The game is set in a steampunk world. Action in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M takes place in the 19th century London invaded by aggressive creatures from outer space. During our adventures we control a four-person unit of soldiers which is a part of the elite S.T.E.A.M formation. Our job is to fend off the invaders.
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is an unusual production, which the creators described as "inspired by steampunk, based on turn-based strategic action game". This is the work of a talented Japanese Intelligent Systems studio, to which we owe the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series, among others.
The action of the game takes place in nineteenth-century London, which is a victim of an invasion by aggressive beings from space. Our task is to counter the danger by leading a unit of four soldiers from the elite formation S.T.E.A.M. - its abbreviated name develops as Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace (in free translation: Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace).
The element of the action is visible in the discussed production in terms of perspective - the battlefield is seen from the arm of a single soldier, i.e. through the view of TPP. The clashes take place in the turn-based system and have a tactical dimension. The player must be cautious about the resources at his disposal (especially the pair, which is the source of energy that drives human technology), resorting to tactics such as flanking and dragging the enemy into ambushes and taking him into a crossfire. As the missions continue, soldiers acquire better and better equipment, providing them with a wider range of possibilities and the chance to do more damage in foreign ranks.
Looking at Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. It is worth noting that this is a game set in a completely three-dimensional environment, which was created in a specific style, referring to American comics. Interestingly, the opponents' project was inspired by creatures from H mythology. P. Lovecraft, and the pieces in the soundtrack of this game are a combination of 19th century music with contemporary rock.
The work of Intelligent Systems studio offers not only a solo campaign, but also a network multiplayer mode for up to four players.

Game Rant: 2.5 / 5 by Christopher Gates
'Code Name S.T.E.A.M.'s' biggest strength, its 3D perspective, also leads to its biggest weakness, resulting in gameplay that feels less like a battle and more like an interactive loading screen.
TheSixthAxis: 7 / 10 by Dominic Leighton
The game's Japanese release carries the subtitle Lincoln Vs Aliens, and in many ways the game benefits from the schlocky extra tag. The historical and literary figures, married with the silver-age comic book visuals make for an engaging world which begs for you to be a part of it. The downside is that the tactical gameplay simply isn't in the same league as the developer's other work, rewarding drawn-out, cautious play above any more meaningful tactics. Though there is fun to be had here, Codename S.T.E.A.M. disappointingly lacks the purity that made Intelligent Systems' earlier work so essential.
Nintendo Life: 8 / 10 by Lee Meyer
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is a fun, quirky new release from Nintendo. While there are a few flaws in the game design, we think that there's enough good here to justify a purchase from any Nintendo fan looking for something different. We'd love to see more of this compelling and riotous new world from Intelligent Systems; it's a great way to learn about classic literature...sort of.
