Circuit Breakers is a shoot up game developed by an independent Triverske studio. The game launched on PC, where it was developed and extended for a long time, and then also appeared on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was published by Excalibur Games on all platforms.
Story
Circuit Breakers takes place in the distant future when mankind has finished working on AI. FIRST, as it was called, rebelled against its creators and, fearing for its own future, fled to a distant planet, where it began to build a private army, preparing for a war on a huge scale. The players take on the role of daredevils who are sent on a mission of final annihilation before things get completely out of control.
Mechanics
The action of Circuit Breakers we observe from a camera hanging high above the heroes' heads (a top-down perspective). The game consists primarily of the extermination of adversaries hordes - dynamic battles take place in real-time, and during them, we make use of an extensive arsenal. We have several soldiers with different combat skills and preferred weaponry at our disposal - while Aldo uses a machine gun, Shelby eliminates opponents with a shotgun, Samson sows panic in the ranks of opponents with a rocket launcher, and Tay makes use of a laser gun.
The game implements a weapon improvement system - defeated enemies leave behind the crystals of the Energium, a valuable mineral drastically increasing the capabilities of the giver treated with it. However, the improvements we have made are not of a permanent nature - in order to keep the weapons statistics at a specific level, we must constantly take care of the right energy supply. In the course of the struggle, it is also important to use a shield that protects us from attacks - interestingly, while the players can fire while using the protection offered by it, this possibility has been removed from the consoles (in return reducing the amount of Energium it uses). The disc can also be used in a less conventional way - for example to repel tires.
The game is diversified by modifiers selected by us, which we unlock as we progress - they can both facilitate the game (for example, by increasing the number of heroes' lives) and make it more difficult (increasing the endurance of enemies).
Game modes
In Circuit Breakers you can play alone or in the company of other players - when other daredevils join us, the difficulty level is automatically scaled to maintain the right level of challenge. In addition, PlayStation 4 players can take advantage of the Share Play feature, enabling them to use the local multiplayer mode as an equivalent to the absence of the online co-op game.
Technical aspects
The two-dimensional pixel art visuals of Circuit Breakers presents an average level of workmanship. The whole was maintained in a style reminiscent of hits from the turn of the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century.
