Chester is the debut game of the independent studio Brilliant Blue-G, founded and led by Benn Friedrich. The production is inspired by cult 2D platformers in the style of Super Mario Bros. and Super Meat Boy.
Plot
The game does not have a fleshed-out plot. The title character, whose actions are directed by the player, is a friendly humanoid creature trapped in inhospitable, alien planets on which there are plenty of traps and hostile beings.
Mechanics
The player's task is to help Chester pass through 50 levels located in seven different worlds. As befits a 2D platformer, the basis of the game is jumping between platforms, avoiding traps, fighting enemies, as well as collecting a variety of items, such as red stamps, which serve as currency, allowing you to buy new outfits.
The creators were tempted by a few original solutions. The main one is cRPG elements including the character development system. The experience gained by the hero allows you to advance to the next level and learn new skills. Also, during the game, the player can unlock 10 other playable characters, each of which has specific properties.
Technical aspects
Chester is distinguished by 2D visuals and a cartoon style. An interesting solution used by the developers from Brilliant Blue-G is the ability to change the appearance of the location, including a style that makes them look like a school notebook, sketch or negative. The music was composed by Reina Lemour.
