Stay out of my Zone, Stalker – the Chernobyl disaster in video games
Chernobyl, and specifically the so-called Zone surrounding the nuclear power plant where the incident took place on April 26, 1986, was a subject of numerous more or less believable narratives throughout the last 30 years, inspiring game devs as well.
Chernobyl 3: Underground Description
Commercial success of Chernobyl: Terrorist Attack and Chernobyl 2: The return to the zone encouraged Play Way to prepare the next installment of the series, which is very popular especially among Russian players.
The action of Chernobyl 3: Underground takes place in the near future. The serious crisis in the euro area has not allowed the construction of a new sarcophagus around the destroyed Chernobyl nuclear reactor. Meanwhile, once inaccessible to civilians, the area of the zone became a hiding place for criminals, deserters and all sorts of bandits. This situation is exploited by international armaments companies, which test modern combat technologies in the zone.
The player plays the role of a tenant at the services of one of the corporations. Officially, his task is to investigate the level of radiation in the buildings of reactor no. 5. In fact, the hero has to test the usefulness of the new combat helmet system.
The game is based on dynamic shooting sequences observed from the first person's perspective (FPP). A player-controlled hero can use a large arsenal of futuristic weapons and military equipment, headed by the aforementioned combat helmet, which displays a number of useful information during combat.
Unlike earlier versions of the cycle, the locations in Chernobyl 3: Underground are usually closed rooms (production halls, underground corridors, etc.). This required the game developers to introduce a number of changes to the original Argon engine.
