Chantelise is a production that mixes RPG mechanics with strong dexterity aspects. This is another game by the independent Japanese band Easy Game Station, the creators of the popular Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale.
The game tells the story of two sisters. Mother always warned them not to leave the house when the red moon reigns in the sky. Unfortunately, the younger girl, Chante, did not listen to her mother's advice and one night, when the moon was shining red more than ever before, she escaped into the forest in hiding. Her older sister, Elise, worried, ran to look for her. The next morning they both woke up in the middle of the clearing and to their surprise they discovered that Chante had turned into a small winged elves. Now the sisters will have to embark on a dangerous expedition to discover how to bring Chante back into her former form.
Chantelise is an arcade roleplaying game, in which we observe the action from behind the back of Elise led by us. The older sister specializes in the battle of small arms, while Chante serves as a support thanks to her magical abilities. The fight takes place in real time and resembles an action game. We directly control every movement of Elise, and in the case of a younger sister, we only decide what spells she cast. In Chantelise we will not find a character development system typical for RPG production. Elise does not gain any levels of experience and instead her combat capabilities are improved by finding and buying better and better equipment that increases life points, attack power, defensive abilities and resistance to magic.
Chante specializes in magic attacks. A younger sister needs special gems to cast spells, which we collect by searching through levels and opening containers left by defeated enemies. There are several types of gems and each allows you to cast different spells. At the same time, the order in which gems are gathered determines the order in which we can cast spells. Fortunately, jewels can be combined to create more powerful magic combinations. For example, a gem of fire will allow us to use a magical sphere, while a gem of earth will evoke iron balls to protect Elise. However, if we first take a gem of earth and then join it with a gem of fire, we get iron balls covered with fire, which greatly increases the damage they deal. Let's use a jewel of water instead of fire, and the balls will gain the power to paralyse enemies after hitting. Finding and inventing such combinations is necessary to complete the game.
Chantelise was originally released in 2006 in Japan, which, combined with the fact that this is a game of a small independent band, makes the graphics more than delight anyone with the technical level. Nevertheless, the visual setting has its own charm and can appeal to lovers of Japanese stylistics. In addition, this title has extremely low hardware requirements.
