A noir point&click adventure game filled with a lot of humour. Cat Detective Albert Wilde has us playing as the titular character, trying to solve the strangest murder mystery of his career. We meet a bunch of other interesting human-animal characters, examine locations and push the investigation forward.
Cat Detective Albert Wilde is a point & click adventure detective game. It was developed by the independent Greek studio beyondthosehills, which has projects like The Minims and reky in its portfolio.
Story
Cat Detective Albert Wilde takes us to a world inhabited by humanoid animals, inspired by noir films from the 1930s. The main character of the game is Albert Wilde, the titular detective with a human body and a cat's head, who undertakes to solve the strangest murder case in his career.
To accomplish this, the protagonist must use all his experience related to drinking in bars and questioning suspects, as well as searching locations. The situation is complicated by the fact that, deprived of friends, a girlfriend, and the ability to pee on the office wall, Albert himself is not in the best shape.
Although (almost) everything sounds very serious, the game is permeated with humor.
Gameplay
In Cat Detective Albert Wilde events are presented from various perspectives. The game allows us to walk around locations and examine them through the eyes of Albert (FPP). Upon interacting with a character or an environmental element, the camera changes position, showing the hero in "cinematic" shots.
The core of the game are conversations with other characters. We encounter such personalities as a pig-lawyer, a moose-bookmaker, a sheep-singer, or a pole-dancing flamingo. We also have to come face to face with representatives of the crocodile gang.
In addition to this, we need to carefully examine the visited places in search of items and clues that will lead us on the right track and allow us to push the investigation forward. Driving between locations gives Albert the opportunity to share his thoughts on current events.
Graphics
The graphic design of Cat Detective Albert Wilde is maintained in monochromatic colors. The whole is covered with a filter that makes it resemble noir cinema.
