Castle in the Darkness
Arcade 05 February 2015
A two-dimensional platformer created by an independent develope Matt Kap and inspired by such classics of the genre as the Metroid or Castlevania series. The player assumes the role of a daredevil who's goals are to liberate the Kingdom of Alexandria from the rule of a ruthless wizard and to rescue a princess the evildoer has kidnapped. Mechanics-wise, the game resembles old-school platformers, especially games commonly referred to as metroidvania titles, which had their golden age on 8-bit systems, such as NES. Games of this kind are characterized by open world filled with secrets and collectibles that usually improve the abilities of the player character. As the protagonist gains new abilities, subsequent regions of the land are opened for the player to explore - in new areas, increasingly stronger enemies can be encountered.
