The Cartel is an attempt to enrich the classic RTS concept with elements of a turn-based strategy. Developers from Paradox Interactive were inspired by the atmosphere of the original Syndicate, so their work is considered a spiritual heir to the game created in 1993 by the Bullfrog Productions studio team.
Cartel Action takes players into the near future. Power over the world includes megacorporations called cartels. They are fighting among themselves for influence and domination. Players direct the actions of one of these organizations, trying to tip the scales of victory on their side by all means.
In terms of gameplay, Cartel is a multispecies mix, offering action-packed missions (including reconnaissance, espionage, sabotage and contract killings) that require tactical command capabilities of a small troop, but also extensive strategic mechanisms to develop technologies, conduct diplomatic activities and plan the course of tasks. At the same time, developers have bet on a lot of freedom - it depends on the players on which elements of the game will focus the most, and what they will leave in the hands of computer artificial intelligence.
