Call of Saregnar is classic retro-style RPG, modeled on PC games from the 90s, especially Betrayal at Krondor and Betrayal in Antara. Project was developed by Damjan Mozetic.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in a fantasy land which is a mixture of many historical nations from the Middle Ages and enriched with magical elements. The action begins in the village of Avanmoor, where people have been disappearing in mysterious circumstances for some time. The case becomes even more serious when a local baron is murdered. Discovering the identity of the perpetrator is entrusted to an unusual team, consisting of a knight, a magician's apprentice and his friend - a rogue.

What at first seems to be a simple investigation of one crime, with time will turn into a great adventure, in which the heroes will be entangled in the middle of a war between gods.

Game mechanics

Call of Saregnar is classic RPG, referring to the PC traditions of the genre, especially those from the first half of the 90s. We observe the events from a first-person perspective, and during the game we explore the world, complete tasks, develop characters and fight.

Game offers tactically advanced turn-based battle system. During the battles, the game abandons the FPP view, allowing us to command a team moving around the map covered by a hexagonal grid. The key role in skirmishes is played by magic system. Within it we can gain the support of twelve different deities, each of which offers access to different spells. In Call of Saregnar gods are very capricious and gaining sympathy of some of them is a real challenge.

The world has an open structure and in no way limits the freedom of exploration. The game takes a realistic approach to it - we have to take care of the necessary equipment for the journey, such as blankets, food or appropriate clothing. It is also necessary to look after weapons and armor, which includes sharpening weapons, oiling bowstrings or repairing dents in the armor.

To be successful the player has to show a lot of perceptiveness and a good memory. In the game there are no hints or markers showing the locations of important places. All the information needed to complete the tasks we get by reading documents and talking to NPCs. Our only help is an automatically updated journal, which records conversations and previous achievements of the characters.

Game modes

Game offers only single player mode.

Technical aspects

Call of Saregnar features unusual graphics, inspired by Betrayal at Krondor. The world is 3D, but many objects in it, such as trees and bushes, are 2D bitmaps. All of the character models were created similarly, but in their case the silhouettes of actors in costumes were transformed into animated sprites.
