Don’t Go West – why developers ignore westerns?
There are really not many alternatives to Red Dead Redemption for players who long for a proper western video-game experience. Most developers seem to look the other way when considering possible settings – and that’s no surprise.

Call of Juarez Description
Call of Juarez is a first person shooter (action/FPS) developed by a Polish developer Techland. This title bears a resemblance to another game – Gun. You visit the dangerous and brutal Wild West and follow the adventures of two playable characters: Billy, a young man, wrongly accused of committing a serious crime, and Ray, a former gunman who left his past behind him and became a reverend. Each character is different and has unique features and abilities, which results in varying gameplay. Ray often engages in open shootouts, whereas Billy prefers sneaking past enemies.
The game consists of a number of diverse missions. You can take part in horse chases, shootouts in town streets, tracking escaped convicts, etc. In this, you can make use of a large arsenal of weapons from the period, such as revolvers or rifles. You can also wield two weapons at the same time. Note that in the game you get to meet a number of characters known from the books or films about the Wild West, which adds to the game’s appeal.
Call of Juarez uses an improved version of game engine famous for the game Chrome. It supports multiple visual effects (realistic smoke, fire, shading, lighting, Shader Model 3.0, dynamic atmospheric effects, etc.) and realistically simulates physics (interactive environment, flora, fauna, Ragdoll effect). The game sports atmospheric soundtrack.
