Cabela's Big Game Hunter II is a development of ideas used in the first installment of the cycle released less than a year earlier. Once again we play the role of a hunter and go hunting by leasing equipment marked with the logo of Cabela's, a company that manufactures specialized equipment.
Before we start playing, we prepare the expedition. Players have three locations at their disposal: Alberta, New Mexico and an African safari in Canada. Each of the available areas is characterised by a different climate and the flora and fauna that can be found there. As part of our preparations, we select the appropriate equipment including various types of weapons, binoculars, antlers' dummies, tent, compass and other useful accessories. We also obtain a permit to hunt a particular species of animal (out of a dozen or so available) from a tourist agent.
After these operations, a map of the area appears to us. From its level we choose the place where the temporary camp was set up and proceed to the proper hunting. The camera changes to the first person and by rotating 360 degrees we look for a potential victim. The game requires perceptiveness and reflex, especially when the animals run between clumps of bushes and trees. To lure them we can use, among other things, imitation of their sounds. All trophies received are described in detail and are sent to a specially prepared room for this purpose.
Compared to the first part of the cycle, some improvements were made in the graphic design. The animals present themselves in more detail, and at the moment of a successful shot we watch a film animation showing the scene of the death of a hit specimen.
