Bye-Bye Boxboy! is the next installment of a series of platform logic games developed by HAL Laboratory. Like previous parts of the series, the title was developed for the 3DS console.
Story
The main hero of Bye-Bye Boxboy! is Qbby, a square character gifted with unusual abilities. This time, the protagonist's task is to face the threat of a sinister Black Smoke and save the so-called Qbabies - small, similar creatures. In return for the help they receive, the small squares give the hero additional skills to help in the demanding journey through diverse, two-dimensional worlds.
Mechanics
The action of Bye-Bye Boxboy is presented from the side. Eighteen different stages await completion, which we traverse going right. Along the way, the protagonist must solve logic puzzles and avoid numerous pitfalls and other dangers. Fortunately, he is not defenseless - his main advantage is the ability to replicate his own shape, thanks to which he can get to places that are difficult to reach. This time, however, he is accompanied by other skills, generously donated by rescued Qbabies: Boxrocket creates squares equipped with a jet engine so that our client can switch buttons above it; the bombbox is nothing more than a bomb that destroys selected elements of the environment; the Warpbox allows teleportation over short distances; the Remotebox allows floating in the air.
As we progress, we'll gain access to bonus content including costumes, comics, music and additional challenges.
Technical aspects
Characteristic feature of Bye-Bye Boxboy! are the incredibly simple two-dimensional visuals. However, the whole thing is legible and fulfils its role well. As mentioned earlier, the production makes use of the unique capabilities of the 3DS console - additional content (like Kirby's constume) can be unlocked with amiibo figures.
