"Booby Trap" is a rather amateur game (four independent programmers with a small budget) and with the use of technology similar to the popular Flash, a rather unusual adventure-logical game. This title is available, among other things, on the manufacturer's website, players can test it free of charge for the first 30 days, but after that time a certain fee must be paid.
The whole action is shown in isometric projection. Despite the fact that the plot does not play a very important role during the game, its presence should be emphasized. In one of the English castles there were murders, the player plays the role of a police inspector named Parker, who tries to uncover the perpetrator. Twelve people are involved in the whole case, and an additional difficulty is the castle itself, which is filled with numerous traps.
The player has to deal with two types of levels. The logical charts, of which there are 37 in total, are characterized by an atypical base divided into quite specific "tiles". Selected fields are mined and the player must disarm them accordingly. However, there are two issues to be taken into account: most of the traps are connected with each other and, in addition, their distribution is randomly drawn at each start. The player must fall within a certain time period, otherwise he loses the game. In many ways, the whole thing resembles the popular "Sapper" attached to most operating systems.
The second type of maps (there are about fifty of them) takes full advantage of adventure games. In this case you don't have to worry about the passage of time anymore, instead you can concentrate your efforts on discovering the personalities and motives of the perpetrator of the murder. The player must explore the rooms in search of valuable objects, combine certain types of objects, solve not too difficult riddles and interrogate people who were in the castle at the time of the murder. The estimated time needed to complete the whole game is about twenty hours.
The visual setting "Booby Trap" plays a rather symbolic role. The boards are filled with numerous interactive objects, and at certain moments additional windows appear (for example during conversations).
