This spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio has the same stylish look and feel, though with better gameplay for the outlaw street gang

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a modernised love letter to Jet Set Radio that combines fun and stylistic gameplay, with a kaleidoscope of updated Dreamcast-era visuals and sound to create a sequel in everything but name. We may never see Sega release another Jet Set Radio again, but this is the next best thing and an exciting foundation for the future.

But, even then, there’s this overwhelming sense that the tricks don’t really serve much purpose until the game tells you that points and graffiti tags matter, basically driving a wedge between the best thing about the game and the activities that actually progress the story. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is resuscitating what made Jet Set Radio so great back in the day, and it’s far from being a disgrace to the name. But it’s off-kilter in every way that the original games felt cohesive.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Description
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an arcade action game inspired by 2000's iconic Jet Set Radio. It was developed by Team Reptile, also known for the Lethal League series.
Plot
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is set in an alternate future, in a city divided into zones controlled by gangs of graffiti artists. The playable character must challenge all these factions, gradually taking over the entire city.
Mechanics
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a third-person game. The city serves as an open world, which we can traverse in flashy, spectacular ways. The protagonist is equipped with a jetpack, letting him grind on barriers, slide on surfaces, wall run and make long jumps. He can also perform tricks in the air. The gameplay is very fast-paced, made even faster by the Bomb Rush mode, activated after particularly impressive trick combos.
Getting near a graffiti area activates a special mode, during which we must hit targets while hanging in mid-air. The exact sequence of hits affects the final outcome of our work. Painting on the walls gives reputation. Gathering enough of it lets us challenge the faction ruling the given territory.
We must also watch out for the police, who can seriously hinder our plans.
Technical aspects
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk features colorful, cartoonish, cel-shaded graphics. The soundtrack was composed by Hideki Naganuma, known for his work on Jet Set Radio.
