Blade & Soul: Revolution is a free-to-play MMORPG about Far Eastern martial arts, set in a fantastic open world. The game was a success in various Asian countries, even winning the Google Play award for "Best Game in Korea". Its prototype is Blade & Soul, released in 2012 for PC. The developers' goal was to recreate the gameplay known from the first installment and adapt it to the way iOS and Android mobile devices work.
Plot
On the day the game's protagonist is formally admitted to the Hongmoon School, the main antagonist Jinsoyun launches an attack on the peaceful Heaven's Reach, killing the master and the other students. A woman seizes the sword Twilight's Edge, and her laugh echoes throughout Heaven's Reach. The player's goal is to avenge the death of the master and brothers and defeat the powerful Jinsoyun.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Blade & Soul: Revolution is all about exploring the vast world filled with monsters and playing fast-paced battles against the enemies you encounter. The player explores the vast land, encountering more and more creatures with different skill level. Attacks can be made using the action wheel located on the right side of the screen. When you press a button, your character will perform a specific action, but this will make the technique unavailable for a time. To add more variety to attacks, players can use chain skills, activating different types of strikes in a specific order to give the character a surge of power. As the game progresses, abilities can be mastered, unlocking new attack variants and teaming up with other players.
Like other MMO games, Blade & Soul also offers the possibility to create your own hero in the character creator. The player can choose his race (some are associated with a specific gender) and some characteristics of appearance. However, the most important is the class, which the player decides to assign to his hero (here the choice of class is also dependent on the race of the hero). Currently, five different professions are available: Blade Master, Destroyer, Kung Fu Master, Force Master and Summoner. Classes are divided by three levels of difficulty, the easiest to master being Destroyer, who uses a massive axe in battle. On the highest level are Kung Fu Master and Summoner. Some of the warriors are skilled in close combat, while others are skilled in distance fighting. Thanks to their unique abilities, classes such as Summoner and Force Master are also useful in team fights.
The game features special accelerations for movement. With abilities such as Air Dash, Water Dash and Sprinting the player can glide through the air, run over water or rush like the wind through the vast locations of Blade & Soul: Revolution.
Game modes
The game features several new game modes. In addition to the classic mode, in which the hero explores the open world, completing quests and unlocking subsequent elements of the story, the player has the opportunity to participate in PvP fights, taking place in a special arena. This variant has two versions. Battles can be carried out in 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 mode. The first option allows for classic duels between two opponents, while the second option allows for fighting in pairs. The ally can stay outside the arena and jump into the place of the duelist at a given moment, or all involved in the game can duel simultaneously. In this mode, it's all about speed and efficiency - a moment of doubt is enough to tip the scales of victory to the enemy's side.
Another option is the PvE mode, in which up to four 4-player teams take part, and their task is to kill a powerful boss. In the raid not only good cooperation with the rest of the allies is necessary, but also strength and effective strategy.
The last mode is RvR - Faction War, an all-out battle in which both veteran and novice players can take part. Faction War is played out in real-time in an open area, and even the newly initiated can play a role in it. A time limit appears in this mode, in which players must defeat members of the enemy faction and captains of enemy strike units. In the meantime, players can attack a special enemy (Ironfung) - killing him will provide them with a buff useful in the main battle. They also have the ability to take over an occupied area, which also allows them to buff allied NPCs.
Technical aspects
The game features colourful 3D graphics, developed with the use of Unreal Engine 4.
