BIT.TRIP RUNNER, released on PC and Wii, is the next installment of the BIT.TRIP series, in which the main task of the player is to press buttons at the right moment in order to generate music. Gaijin Games studio is responsible for the creation of the production and it is available through digital distribution.
Mechanics
The gameplay in BIT.TRIP RUNNER resembles a dynamic platformer. The game includes over 50 levels. We play as Commander Video. Our protagonist automatically runs to the right and our task is to avoid obstacles. We can jump, destroy or slip underneath objects standing on our path. Each action generates a specific sound. Considering that Commander Video runs very fast and that there are a lot of obstacles, single sounds turn into music.
The played melodies seem to be one of the main factors behind the success of this production. The gameplay is demanding, so you have to approach certain stages many times until you complete them. The main hero collects gold, so an additional motivating factor is to collect all the bars on each level. During the game, we also score points, the number of which can be further increased thanks to various types of improvements changing the appropriate multiplier.
Technical aspects
The graphic design in BIT.TRIP RUNNER was made in a characteristic style. We go through 2D levels, and the environment and individual objects are made of simple models resembling big pixels. In combination with vivid colors and dynamic screen movement give a unique effect.
