Hybrid adventure game hybrid and sneaky in the horror survival convention. At Bitter Tides we get to a place like a nightmare, not knowing where we are and what is going on around us. We travel through shivering locations and solve environmental riddles by learning more about the world presented, while avoiding traps and confrontation with adversaries at all costs.
Bitter Tides is a survival horror hybrid of adventure and stealth game developed by the independent developer Bottom Feeders.
Story
In Bitter Tides we find ourselves in a gloomy wilderness from a nightmare, full of dangers in the form of traps and monsters. During the game, we have to find out where we are and what is going on around us.
Mechanics
In Bitter Tides the action was shown from first-person perspective. In the course of the struggle, we travel through shivering locations and look for shreds of information about the game world, which often requires solving environmental puzzles. However, our quest is made difficult by numerous traps and dangerous, dark creatures. In order to survive, we have to avoid crossing them and distract their attention to sneak past their backs, traps should be set to defeat them and if necessary, the creatures must be eliminated from surprise (for example with a Molotov cocktail).
What helps us on the mission is the Heart, a special tool that plays the role of a lure (as we progress, we gain modifications that increase its capabilities), but also a lamp that illuminates the darkness. The latter should be used with caution, as it requires kerosene to operate, and the latter also plays the role of currency for which we buy useful items and improvements. Moreover, we unlock new skills as the game progresses.
Technical aspects
Bitter Tides features gloomy three-dimensional visuals. The game is complemented by an atmospheric soundtrack.
