Between is an interesting title for only two users (no solo game). The work was developed by one person - Jason Rohrer. The game was appreciated at the Independent Games Festival (Game Developers Conference 2009), where it received an award for innovation of the year.
Between offers a completely original approach to online gameplay. The free production of just a few hundred kilobytes is for two players only, connected to each other via a network server. Players can play with strangers or create a separate room for a friend by passing on the appropriate code displayed on the screen.
The gameplay itself is difficult to define, but in short, it consists in creating squares of different colors, which need to be filled with the appropriate tower. Each player has a set of basic colours and several options. Although players do not see each other, they can interact with each other. For example, we can put four objects in a special place and transform them into a completely new object. In this way, the necessary multicoloured figures should be created.
The title was made using a very simple, or even symbolic audiovisual setting. The control is also not very complicated. The character is moved by means of arrows (left and right), which are also manipulated by squares (up and down). You can switch between different colors with the B and N keys, and the figures are created with a space. In addition, there is an option to change the time of day and level (W and S).
