Beastieball combines collecting and training potwork-based gameplay straight out of the Pokemon series with team-based volleyball. The creation of the independent title was kept under the supervision of Canadian Greg Lobanov.
Storyline
We start the game as an assistant coach of a local, lowest ranked Beastieball team - a team volleyball game using small monsters. One day the League shows up with plans to build a stadium over the nature reserve where our character regularly spends time. To counteract the construction of the infrastructure, the hero decides to rebuild the team and raise his ranking.
Gameplay
In Beastieball, we travel the open world collecting and training monsters in order to defeat eight ranked coaches. The volleyball game is played in turn-based mode. Each team fields two creatures on the court and up to three on the substitute bench. Each turn, one of the teams has the ball, which puts them on the attack. Meanwhile, the opponent's defense tries to anticipate where the attack will occur and prepares to defend.
During each turn, a player can make three moves, such as passing or changing position, before the ball is sent to the other side. Hit creatures receive damage, which depends on the distance between them and the net. The game ends when either team is "wiped out" or scores a certain number of points. Points are brought by hitting the ball on the ground, which happens when there is no monster in the place or it has run out of stamina.
Players differ in personality, size and color, so no two are exactly alike. Their skills are determined by their strengths and weaknesses in three categories: body, spirit and mind.
Beastieball is a team sport. Each pair of players playing together gradually becomes close to each other. Their personalities and style of cooperation influence what kind of special pair they will form - "partners," "besties," "rivals" or "likes." The bond between them gives access to unique combos?s.
In addition to matches, we explore the world and solve puzzles.
Game modes
In addition to the single-player campaign, Beastieball also offers to take your team online to duel with other people.
Graphics and music
Colorful Beastieball was created in Game Maker Studio 2, and the soundtrack was composed by Lena Raine, known for her Minecraft OST, among others.
