Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

A racing game about go-karts racing around a mysterious island full of ancient ruins and dragons. Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure was developed by Vector Unit, responsible among others for the Beach Buggy or Riptide GP series.

Mechanics

There are several game modes available in the game. The most basic is "Adventure", which involves playing races across the island in a predetermined order. The others are for online rivalries and are divided into Races (player versus player), Tournaments and Championships, where we take part in numerous competitions according to a set schedule.

In the Adventure mode, we set the difficulty of the game at the very beginning and, following the instructions of the coordinator Rubba, we move on to more and more tracks scattered around the Coconut Island. Before each competition, we choose the vehicle we will race and its driver. The competition consists of two laps and there are 6 drivers. The tracks are not straight and uniform, but each one has its own distinctive features and obstacles, such as a fire-breathing dragon or flying rocks hitting the go-karts. All tracks are also filled with special "gifts", after collecting them we can perform one of 44 special actions. They are used to hinder opponents or protect our vehicle.

For each race we get a certain number of stars - collecting the right amount of them, we unlock new vehicle models and drivers. They all have their own unique skills, so the choice is not only cosmetic. We have to be careful while driving. Hitting an obstacle or by another player can end up with our driver falling out from behind the wheel, which takes us back to the last checkpoint. There is also an option to personalise and upgrade your machines, and there are about 40 models available.

Game modes

In addition to Adventure, which is the most extensive mode, you can also race against other players in special competitions and championships. Winning them we go up in the ranking and gain unique titles. In addition to the predefined gameplay schemes, you can also create your own by adjusting the obstacles, number of players and the number of laps. Up to 8 people can participate in races via local multiplayer.

Technical aspects

The game features simple and colourful visuals, looking pleasing to the eye and keeping the hardware requirements of the game very low.
