After a break due to the development of a new series, TalonSoft serves the ninth installment of its most famous strategic series. For the fifth time in the history of the cycle, the Civil War was taken to the workshop, this time focusing on the battles fought in September 1863 on the Chickamauga Creek River.

After the decline in popularity of its flagship series, TalonSoft began work on a new series, initiated by the East Front and West Front, which took place during World War II. Their moderate success, however, caused that after a short break, the artists returned with a full-fledged continuation of the Battleground cycle. This is the fifth time that the game with the ninth title touches on the theme of the Civil War, which is loved by Americans. This time it was decided to recreate the course of the fights that took place in September 1863 on the Chickamauga River, called by the Indians "The River of Blood".

The bloody three-day battle ended with the victory of an army of Confederates led by General Braxton Bragg over the Union forces led by William Rosencrans and George H. Thomas. Despite the victory, the troops of southerners suffered huge losses in this battle - almost 30% of killed, missing and wounded soldiers and 10 generals. This led to a significant weakening of the Confederates, who, as it later turned out, had not managed to rebuild their power until the end of the war.
