The sixth part of the famous strategic Battleground series by Talonsoft, which took us to the Russian village of Borodino until September 7, 1812. It was then that the troops of the invincible Napoleon, led by Marshal Michael Ney, and the Russian troops led by General Kutuzov stood in front of each other and fought one of the bloodiest battles in the history of mankind.
In the game, we control one of the two armies of more than 100,000 men, throwing it into a fierce battle. We can fully recreate the course of the battle, but the authors have also prepared 21 separate scenarios - both historical and hypothetical. We have authentic units taking part in the murderous clashes at Borodino, including many types of infantry and cavalry. It is worth noting that the traditional artists tried to recreate very faithfully the real uniforms and armament of all the formations taking part in the battle.
Battleground 6: Napoleon in Russia is a racial turn-based strategy game with an intuitive interface and relatively simple troop control and command. Thanks to a special system of options and hints, the title can be successfully used by less experienced players. In the game we can take control over both sides of the conflict, and our opponent becomes a good AI computer, which reacts dynamically to the player's actions.
The game's binding is based on the same engine, which is only slightly improved in the following parts. The battle can be seen in a two or three-dimensional perspective, where detailed graphics still looks really good. The hexagonal map faithfully recreates the area of the struggle, where one field symbolizes about 100 m real distance. The creators from TalonSoft did not forget about multiplayer options, of course. Traditionally, we can compete in two, via the Internet or e-mail.
