Battleground 1: Bulge - Ardennes Deluxe Description
Refreshed version of TalonSoft's excellent turn-based strategy from 1995. Once again, we are moving into the reality of one of the most important battles in the history of World War II, known as the Battle of Ardennes. This time, however, we can enjoy a really large number of changes that have been made to the game compared to the original.
The offensive in the Ardennes was the last major operation of the German army on the western front. Despite the commitment of the best troops, Germany failed to separate British and American forces, which was supposed to force the allied armies to surrender. Despite their initial successes, they suffered a devastating defeat. Huge losses in equipment and soldiers facilitated the counterattack of the Allies and the subsequent Soviet offensive on the eastern front, which, as it later turned out, was of key importance for the fate of the war.
Ardennes Deluxe introduces two completely new maps with a total of 14 new scenarios. Combined with the original content of the game, this gives an impressive number of 40 missions, which take place between December 1944 and January 1945 near French towns - Bastogne, Clervaux, Stoumont, La Gleize, St. Vith and Rochefort. We can support both the allied states and the Axis' troops. After completing the scripts prepared by the authors, the game can be continued using the extensive editor of the mission. In the multiplayer mode, in addition to skirmishes via modem, there is also the possibility of playing via e-mail and the "hot chair" mode on one computer (with the use of the "war fog" option).
The fight takes place invariably in a turn-based system, on hexagonal maps, where one field symbolizes approx. 250 m real distance. The greatest number of improvements have been made to the Battleview engine that propels the game. In addition to completely new graphics in 3D mode, the artificial intelligence of the computer and an intuitive and very user-friendly interface have been improved, especially for beginners. Now individuals can lose valuable points of strength and apply new defensive strategies such as digging. All this increased the realism of the original game.
