Battle of the Bulge Description
Battle of the Bulge is a turn-based strategy game by Shenandoah Studio. The game started the Crisis in Command series.
Plot
According to the title, Battle of the Bulge focuses on recreating the Ardennes Counteroffensive - the battle that lasted from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945. This was the last major offensive operation of the German troops on the western front during the Second World War.
Mechanics
Battle of the Bulge allows you to lead both sides of the conflict. As a German commander, we can try to get into the Meuse River. We can also lead American troops desperately trying to stop an enemy offensive. The large scale battles take place in a turn-based system. We command whole units, never single soldiers.
The aim of the authors was to develop a complex and rich turn-based game, which would satisfy even the most demanding fans of the genre. First of all, the focus was on realism - the characteristics of the units, their equipment and the influence of the terrain on warfare were meticulously reconstructed based on historical records. The game offers a wealth of tactical options and each problem can be solved in several ways.
The level of complexity of the game doesn't involve the interface. It is easy to read and use, leaving behind many similar PC productions. Battle of the Bulge doesn't take much time to learn, but the easy-to-learn control doesn't affect the tactical depth.
Game modes
An additional attraction is the presence of four artificial intelligence players (two on each side of the conflict), which allows you to choose whether you want to fight against a brave and risk-loving or to face a cautious computer opponent. Battle of the Bulge also has a multiplayer mode, in which we can play on one device or via the Internet.
