Basement is an economical strategy game for PC from the Halfbus studio, the production originated as a prototype designed for purposes of the Ludum Dare 29 contest.
In Basement the player will step into the shoes of a talented scientist, who is desperately searching for a way to fund his extremely ambitious research program, which could result in the creation of a cure for cancer. Unwilling to abandon what could potentially be his life’s biggest achievement, he decides to earn the money he needs by producing and selling narcotics.
In the beginning of his adventure the player needs to pick a suitable location for his lab. Afterwards, he can plan the necessary rooms and start the production of one of the several types of drugs. After selling the product, our hero will receive funds, which we can invest in the further development of the business, e.g. we can build new rooms, hire helpers or security.
Upon starting our career we can afford nothing more than a small basement, where we can create small amounts of narcotics to sell to the local junkies. The scale of our endeavor is so measly, that the local authorities and the agents of secret services do not even bother with the actions of our hero, which in return allows us to safely expand our enterprise; however, this state of affairs is only temporary, as sooner or later the needs of the local market will be fulfilled and it will be necessary for us to acquire trucks to transport our goods to other locations. The larger the amounts of narcotics produced, the more attention will be drawn to our business, making the authorities and other gangs a constant, growing threat.
The gameplay in Basement becomes more and more challenging with each passing second, and the structures connecting different sections of our drug empire will grow increasingly brittle; if we manage to fight through all of the difficulties we will reach the final target and acquire the option to retire from our criminal business. However, it is also possible that, at some point, our hero will be locked away in prison and will be forced to wait for an opportunity to break free; should the player successfully escape from custody, he will be given a fraction of his former wealth and the possibility to start his enterprise from scratch.
