Barrow Hill: The Dark Path is an FPP horror adventure game. The game is a continuation of Barrow Hill: Curse of the Ancient Circle from 2006. Both games were developed by Shadow Tor studio.
Plot
The action of the game starts ten years after the events of the first part. A decade ago, mysterious artifacts led to the death of a group of people, and this tragedy was baptized as the "Barrow Hill Incident". The hero is one who knows exactly what happened then.
The story begins when the protagonist decides to return to Barrow Hill, fearing that dark forces will gather there again. His friend Emma Harry is with him again on the expedition. Her friend, Mia, has been behaving strangely lately and there are suspicions that it has to do with these artifacts. Her brother was one of the people who had died a decade earlier, so our hero feels responsible for his sister's fate.
Worse still, there is an equinox coming up, when pagan magic is exceptionally strong, so it will be particularly dangerous to finally solve the Barrow Hill mystery.
Mechanics
In terms of mechanics, the game is an extension of the ideas from the previous part. Barrow Hill: The Dark Path is a classically executed adventure in which we observe the action from the first person perspective. During the game we explore locations, talk, collect objects and solve numerous logical puzzles.
The puzzles are interestingly designed, as many of them are based on the use of archaeological techniques. Other puzzles require the use of modern technology. The production is a pure adventure game, so we won't be able to experience any arcade challenges.
Game modes
Barrow Hill: The Dark Path offers single player mode only.
Technical aspects
The game world is built of prerendered images, enriched only with modest animations. Exploration takes place in a jumping manner and we do not have full freedom to explore the location. The gameplay is varied by scenes with actors.
