Balls of Steel is another popular pinball game, in which we can test our skills on five colorful and varied tables, dedicated, among others, to the legendary hardcore known from the Duke Nukem series. Wildfire Studios debut production was released under the name Pinball Wizards - a special branch of Apogee/3D Realms, designated to work on this genre of games.
In order to meet the tastes of a wide range of recipients, each of the tables created for the game was maintained in a slightly different style. They were also filled with other types of missions and bonuses, so for example, the Darkside action takes place at a space station attacked by aliens. Barbarian is set in the realities of classical, medieval fantasy and we direct on it the actions of the barbarian fighting against the hosts of dragons. Firestorm takes us to a murder-controlled American city where a crazy bomber roams. The action of Mutation takes place in an underground laboratory, where a radioactive accident takes place.
Undoubtedly, the most characteristic of the tables is Duke Nukem, who is dedicated to the hero of the cult game FPP by 3D Realms. The table uses motifs known from the first stages of the game and Duke Nukem & Hulk Hogan's Fantastic Adventure TV show. Interesting for fans is certainly the use of authentic voices of the wrestling star and Jon St. John - the actor who played the voice in Duke Nukem 3D. Originally, the game also included the sixth table, Devil's Island. Finally, however, it was replaced by Duke Nukem table, releasing Devil's Island later as a separate, stand-alone game.
In terms of binding, Balls of Steel is modelled on the productions of Epic Megagames, such as Epic Pinball or Extreme Pinball. The tables are shown in two dimensions and by default the screen is scrolled from top to bottom following the ball. There is also an option to play on the whole table, although due to the size and complexity of the tables such a view is not very clear. The authors took care of detailed SVGA graphics and high quality soundtrack. The best players can also place their scores on a special online board.
