A fun sports game, which of course takes up the subject of ice hockey. Here we can count on a number of simplifications, as well as the addition of unrealistic play modes.
Another representative of the Backyard series. This time we are of course dealing with ice hockey. The series under discussion, however, also dealt with many other sports disciplines, including baseball, basketball and football. It is a product prepared mainly for younger customers. Backyard Hockey has simplified gameplay rules. This does not mean, however, that the ice hockey principle has been completely ignored. This product is fully licensed for the title league, so we can take control of one of thirty NHL teams. Of course, the current composition of the teams was also taken care of. Development studio Mistic Software is responsible for the preparation of this game. The company has also developed games such as My Horse and Me, or Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission Wifix. Backyard Hockey has been prepared exclusively for owners of Nintendo DS consoles.
This product is distinguished by a wide range of available play modes. Among other things, we can participate in the full hockey season, taking part in a series of scheduled tournaments. Definitely more interesting, however, are those modes that bet on a more skillful approach to gameplay. In this case, the competition can be held not only in professionally prepared halls, but also in many other locations. These include backyards, classic ice rinks, and even the interior of huge caves.
For the younger audience, several different levels of difficulty have been taken care of. We can also count on the presence of more or less crazy power-ups, thanks to which controlled players can, for example, move faster on the ice for a few seconds. The possibility of participating in multiplayer games is, of course, provided for. In addition, a variety of bonuses await inquisitive players. These can be funny mini-games, among other things.
Backyard Hockey's visual setting looks very unusual. The hockey players observed on the screen resemble the heroes of popular cartoons to a greater extent than fully-fledged sportsmen. The action takes place on the bottom screen of the console. The top screen is used only to show the current score or the time remaining until the end of the game.
