B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux is a remake of 2000's B-17 Flying Fortress II: The Mighty 8th. It's a simulation game with strategy elements and was developed by MicroProse, the original game's publisher, reactivated in 2019.
Plot
B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux is set during World War II. The titular bomber is the famous "flying fortress" the Allies used to bomb German cities and military bases. The game lets us take part in dangerous missions and determine the course of the entire conflict.
Mechanics
B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux is a first-person game. We'll spend most of our time out on missions, taking direct part in them or commanding troops, setting flight routes and designating targets. We'll bomb ground targets, avoid anti-air defenses and engage in dogfights against enemy fighter planes.
Wanting the venture to be successful, we need to carefully plan its course and select the appropriate members of the bomber crew. Due to a 10-person crew, we can either play as a pilot, a bombarbier or a machine gun operator. That's not all, as we can also pilot escort planes or, if we so desire, German planes aiming to destroy the titular bomber.
The graphics are realistic, so we must learn the controls, how to operate various devices and in what order to do things. Over time we become more skilled, while the rest of the crew also get better at their tasks.
Technical aspects
Compared to the original game, B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux features heavily upgraded visuals. The graphics are very appealing; especially the realistic bomber interrior with lots of indicators and switches in the cockpit.
