Atlantic Fleet for PC, AND and iOS is a continuation of Pacific Fleet, a mobile simulation/strategy game that was released for both leading mobile platforms. The sequel (as well as the first game) was developed by Killerfish Games – a small studio established by two independent developers from Australia and Sweden. In opposition to its well-received predecessor, the game received a separate PC / Windows release.
Plot
The Battle of the Atlantic, also known as one of the longest naval clashes in history, was a multi-faceted campaign that seen the multiple efforts of naval forces of both the Axis and the Allies to gain superiority in the area of the Atlantic Ocean in the interest of forwarding the land efforts of both blocs. Atlantic Fleet enables us to take part in the conflict as either Great Britain’s Royal Navy or German Kriegsmarine, leading each side through numerous clashes and naval encounters, including famous showdowns and convoy hunting.
Mechanics
Similarly to its predecessor, the mechanics of Atlantic Fleet mixes the elements of a turn-based strategy and a streamlined simulator that enables us to assume direct control over individual units. The action is seen from a third person perspective, while the combat itself is divided into move and fire turns. In opposition to Pacific Fleet, the game contains a much wider range of units, including over 60 faithfully recreated vessels (including the iconic ones such as HMS King George V or HMS Prince of Wales), as well as a number of air units.
Game Modes
The developers from Killerfish Games introduced three different singleplayer modes, including a dynamic campaign recreating the events from the years 1939-1945, a fictional campaign consisting of 50 missions for each side, and a Single Battle mode that enables the player to engage in a single scenario (with 30 historical missions to choose from). We can also engage in a hot-seat multiplayer mode.
Technical Aspects
Thanks to the dynamic growth of mobile platforms, Atlantic Fleet uses much more detailed graphics that work well with mobile devices and suffice to satisfy PC users. We are subjected to detailed ship and aircraft models, as well as realistic sceneries, including sea, land, or shoreline areas. Moreover, we can watch the battlefield through binoculars or a periscope, while the vessels in action are subjected to a more spectacular damage system.
