Asteroids: Outpost is a sandbox survival game in the open world. Focusing on online gameplay, it allows players to build bases, fight and collect items needed for survival. The title is a continuation of the popular Asteroids game in the 70's and 80's, but focuses on a completely separate mechanics. Salty Games studio is responsible for the production, and its release was done by Atari Inc.
Asteroids: Outpost takes place at the ends of the solar system, where humanity is looking for new raw materials. After exhaustion of Earth, Mars and moon resources, the attention of world leaders turned to the distant asteroid belt, where the abundant rains of meteorites are the source of raw materials needed by human civilization. Despite preliminary calculations, rockfall turned out to be much more dangerous than initially assumed - its regularity and strength quickly began to pose a serious threat to the lives of both the crews sent to the site and the buildings erected. The players' task is not only to acquire the required metals, but also to fight for survival - their own and their colonies.
Due to the networked nature of the production, in Asteroids: Outpost we can perform all activities in a group. This applies both to building bases, joint exploratory expeditions, as well as attacks on enclaves of other people. An interesting issue is the extraction of raw materials - we obtain them by destroying cosmic rocks, deceptively reminiscent of the formula on which the first Asteroids from 1979 was based. Disintegrating into smaller pieces of stones are the only source of funds and resources - so this element of the game can not be completely omitted.
Players in their actions are not limited to just one asteroid. Along with the improvement of their own ship, suit and other equipment, they can also travel to other planetoids. The bases established there are, however, exposed to similar dangers, so nowhere can we feel 100% safe.
