Asterbreed is an arcade shooter in which we control a powerful mecha. With several different attacks, we break through the battlefield and annihilate hordes of enemies. The game combines the characteristics of classic shooters and shoot'em up titles.
Astebreed is an arcade action game combining elements typical for shoot 'em up games and classic three-dimensional shooters. Guided by a powerful mecca, players face hordes of enemies, but they observe the fights from different perspectives - it can be a TPP view, sometimes 2D, and at certain moments even an isometric projection. The game described herein was developed by Edelweiss studio.
The player assumes the role of Roy Becket, a young pilot who dreams of matching the skills of his legendary father. He receives the chance to prove his value much faster than expected. His galaxy was invaded by a race of aggressive mosses that destroy everything on their way. The army, to which Roy belongs, manages to capture one of the special machines and convert them to serve humanity. However, it requires someone to sit at its helm - the task falls on the shoulders of the hero. On his adventure, he is aided by a young girl.
During the fight one can use three types of attacks: direct attacks with the sword, ranged attacks, and self-levelling attacks. Their efficient use and quick orientation in what is happening on the screen is the key to success. However, the fact that from time to time the player's perspective keeps changing hinders the task.
Astebreed features impressive visuals. Although the models themselves are not particularly complex, the number of colors and molecular effects that occur during combat add to the game's atmosphere and unquestionable charm.

Nintendo Life: 7 / 10 by Dom Reseigh-Lincoln
Nintendo Switch has plenty of shmups to its name, so Astebreed finds itself rubbing shoulders with some of the best retro and modern examples the genre has to offer. With its shifting planes and the constant switch between ranged and melee combat, it manages to offer just enough extra spice to help it stand out, although the lack of an English dub makes its story nigh-on impossible to follow unless you understand Japanese. Still, developer Edelweiss has made an effort to make its previously unwieldy controls fit the confines of the Switch's control interface - although you really should invest in a Pro Controller if you want to enjoy Astebreed at its best. It's not a masterpiece then, but remains worthy of investigation if you love the genre.

Astebreed is a must-download title for any gamer who loves shoot 'em ups.
Nindie Spotlight: 8.5 / 10 by Nindie Spotlight
With as many bullet hell shmups as I’ve played over the years, including ones that have dabbled in different perspectives of various kinds, I’ve simply never played anything like Astebreed. It’s visually full of detail that you’ll blow by and struggle to appreciate as your screen is full of targets, but for all of that intensity the gameplay rarely has any hitches. Once you get the controls in order it’s smooth sailing and feels very natural, even as the game constantly shifts perspective and style on you. While I couldn’t really tell you much of anything about the story, there’s certainly one there, just since it plays out while you’re desperately trying to stay alive I’m not sure you’re really meant to digest it more than in passing. If you’ve been looking for something different and intense in a bullet hell shooter, Astebreed is a solid choice.
