Assault Android Cactus Description
Assault Android Cactus for PC, PSV and PS4 is the debut production of the independent three-person studio Witch Beam. The developers from Brisbane drew inspiration from arcade shooters they played in their childhood.
Plot
The action takes place in a distant future. The protagonist, a police android named Cactus, received a distressing signal from an interstellar frigate Genki Star. Upon arrival, she discovers that the ship was overtaken by rebelled robots. With the help of friends she meets on her way, she tries to contain the situation on board and counteract the danger.
Mechanics
The gameplay is focused on dynamic combat with large amount of enemies. The developers prepared eight playable characters, each having different kinds of weapons (e.g. Cactus wields a machine gun and a flamethrower) and thus requiring us to apply a different tactic. Our score is influenced by our reflexes and accuracy as well as the ability to skillfully join individual attacks together into continuous combos.
Game modes
Apart from solo play, Assault Android Cactus for PC, PSV and PS4 offers a multiplayer cooperation mode for up to four players. The game’s control system was designed primarily with a console gamepad in mind.
Technical aspects
On the technical side, the game is powered by the popular Unity 3D engine. It offers relatively high-quality three-dimensional graphics on every target platform (PC, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Plus). The soundtrack of Assault Android Cactus was composed by Jeff Van Dyck, the music composer for such series as Total War, Need for Speed, NHL Hockey, and many others.
