Ashes Cricket 2013, released on PC, X360 and PS3, is a virtual version of the series of test matches in cricket, which is probably the most difficult existing form of competition in this team sport, whose roots date back to the 13th century. Their specificity lies in the lack of time limits - they can last up to several days and end up with a significant advantage of one of the teams. The first test match in cricket took place in 1877, and by the year 2000 more than 1800 were played.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Ashes Cricket 2013 accurately reproduces the specific rules of cricket competitions (it is worth noting that there are exactly 42 of them). A flat 20.12-meter long strip is placed on an oval grass pitch. At its ends, there are gates in the form of three wooden pillars pierced into the ground. The player from the attacking team has to hit the opposing team's goal with the ball, while the defender (batsman) equipped with a wooden stick tries to defend it. A second player with a bat (non-striker) is right next to the thrower. The rest of the 11-person team occupies a position in the oval and observe the action. The aim of the game is to score points (runes), which are awarded for accurate hitting a batsman and a non-striker. The specificity of test matches is the fact that they can end up with an advantage of 45 points.
Game modes
Ashes Cricket 2013 was developed by Trickstar Games known from Damage Inc. Pacific Squadron WWII and another version of the cricket simulator - International Cricket 2010. The main element of the competition is The Ashes Cup - the only national teams participating in it since 1882 are England and Australia. However, in the game, we can also direct the remaining eight teams with the right to participate in test matches, including the joint representation of the Caribbean (formerly West Indies), Zimbabwe, India and New Zealand. Just like Ashes Cricket 2009, which was developed at the time by some people from Trickstar Games team, Ashes Cricket 2013 has three game modes, which differ in the format of the games played, which may not have a time limit, last one day or three hours.
The creators from Trickstar Games have tried to accurately reproduce the stadiums in which the Ashes 2013 Cup competition took place, including Old Trafford in Manchester, Trent Bridge in Nottingham, or the legendary Lord's Cricket Ground in London. Thanks to the official license of two cricket federations - English (together with Wales) and Australian, it was possible to accurately map the composition of the two most important teams and their sponsors.
Technical aspects
When it comes to audio-visuals, Ashes Cricket 2013 is a step forward compared to previous cricket simulators. The graphics take full advantage of the hardware configurations and consoles, while well-reproduced sounds, atmospheric music and professional commentary allow you to fully enjoy the atmosphere of the matches.
