The first big expansion for the survival-oriented action game ARK: Survival Evolved. The developer of the base title, Studio Wildcard, once again takes the players on a journey to a completely new world. The players are taken to varied, sun-burnt locations such as sand dunes, mountain tops, canyons, no man’s land, oasis, or finally, deserts.

ARK: Scorched Earth for PC, PS4 and XONE is a DLC add-on for the survival-oriented game ARK: Survival Evolved. It’s a dependent expansion, requiring the base game to function. Both titles have been created and distributed by Wildcard studio.

Mechanics

The biggest highlight of ARK: Scorched Earth for PC, PS4 and XONE is a new world. The new area consists of six sun-scortched zones: dunes, desert, mountains, canyons, no man’s land, and oasis. Each zone has a different ecosystem, including new types of animals, with a number of them suitable for domestication. During the gameplay, players can, for example, create caravans using a camel-resemblant species called Morellatop, or fly on wyverns’ backs.

The add-on expands the crafting system with over fifty new items, allowing the players to create such weapons like whips, boomerangs, flamethrowers, or chainsaws, and construct various useful objects, such as tents, wells, windmills, and oil refineries.

ARK: Scorched Earth also brings new challenges and dangers. The players have to deal with, among others, electric and sand storms, and cope with the heat that can cause a stroke. Additionally, the heroes can use the power of mysterious obelisks to summon the mightiest of the bosses – a powerful manticore. Her defeat will yield a lavish reward.

What is interesting, all these new items, buildings and domesticated animals are not restricted to the new, desert zone. Once you acquire them in ARK: Scorched Earth, you can transfer them to your playthroughs of ARK: Survival Evolved.
