An unusual combination of a strategy game and a tower defense title. Ark of Charon is about building a fort on the back of a moving tree. We must ensure that the tree reaches its destination in the post-apocalyptic world, defending it against various threats.

Gameplay

Ark of Charon is a strategy game with elements of tower defense and city building, in which we develop a colony located on the back of a trudging Tree. The game was developed and released by the cult Japanese studio Sunsoft in collaboration with Angoo Inc.

Plot

Humanity is on the brink of survival after the World Tree is drying up and dying. The new sapling becomes the hope, which must reach its destination in order to grow into its full form.

In connection with this, we become guards who build a mobile fortress on the back of this moving tree. It's the titular Ark of Charon, created to defend the tree during the dangerous journey.

Gameplay

The aim of the game is to guide the Tree to a distant target point. For this purpose, we move between safe zones and the wilderness, where flying creatures attack us.

Before we set off into the unknown, however, we have the opportunity to do down to the surface, where with the help of mining we dig up the resources we need. Obtaining resources is also aided by cultivating the soil on the back of the tree. Having the required resources, we expand the fort with new watchtowers and other defensive structures.

Considering the setting, the space for development is limited. For this reason, we erect structures vertically. Gravity is also a challenge that we must adhere to, so that the buildings do not collapse.

On our way, we visit human ruins, where we will find lost technologies and relics of the past. Together with the raw materials, we can use them to build more advanced structures and increasingly powerful defensive tools.
