ARK: Extinction is an expansion to the online survival action game ARK: Survival Evolved. This is the third add-on, after Scorched Earth and Aberration. All these games were developed by Studio Wildcard.

Mechanics

By creating this DLC, the authors did not force themselves to introduce any radical changes to the gameplay mechanisms. Instead, they focused on creating new content. This add-on allows you to visit the Earth for the first time - the planet full of human civilization ruins and gigantic beasts known as Titans, where even the most magnificent dinosaur species seem small. These powerful creatures can be captured and trained. They also act as minibosses. After defeating all of them we get an opportunity to face something even bigger.

In ARK: Extinction there are also more classic dinosaurs. Among them there is a synthetic species known as Enforcer, capable of climbing the walls, making quick sideways movements (an old good strafe) and teleporting across short distances.

Gasbag is another new species added to the game's world. It acts as a mule - these creatures are useful for transporting heavy objects. Store items on it and then fill its body with air until it starts to resemble a balloon. Then, by releasing the accumulated gas, we can control its flight.

The expansion also adds new items. Manually controlled drones allow us to safely carry out scouts and mark enemies. We can also attach an explosive charge to these devices and send them, for example, to the enemy base. We also use balloons to transport goods, but other players can shoot them down relatively easily, so more valuable shipments are better delivered with Gasbag dinosaurs. There is also a special cryogenic chamber, which allows to freeze and shrink down trained animals, which greatly facilitates their transport.

The corrupted artifacts make the game even more interesting to play. They are able to infect dinosaurs, making them more aggressive and behave like they are part of a hive. The corruption is accompanied by valuable resource, thanks to which we receive dynamically generated missions, in which we gather this substance, repelling the attacks of animals transformed by it.

Technical aspects

The graphics in ARK: Extinction are similar to ARK: Survival Evolved. The big advantage of this game are nice locations, strongly diverging from what the fans of this title could see so far.

It is worth mentioning that Extinction requires the basic version of the game.
