Arise: A Simple Story is an adventure game with platform elements, developed by the independent team at Piccolo Studio and published by Techland Publishing, whose portfolio includes e.g. Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Plot

Arise: A Simple Story starts off unusually, because... during the main character's funeral. Some time later, the protagonist wakes up on the other side, where in the distance a mountain with a mysterious light on top is appearing. Our protégé decides to head towards it, observing the changing landscape along the way, which is a metaphor for his own past, full of both happy and sad moments.

Mechanics

In Arise: A Simple Story we observe the action from various perspectives while traveling through a diverse world; the hero visits grassy plains, dense forests and snow-covered mountain peaks, among other things. During the journey we encounter various obstacles, the overcoming of which requires, for example, jumping on platforms (their role is played by overgrown flowers) or climbing on a high cliff. Additionally, there are also simple environmental puzzles (such as creating a temporary bridge from a fallen tree trunk) or puzzles based on time manipulation.

Technical aspects

Three dimensional graphics of Arise: A Simple Story is kept in colorful, cartoonish style. The game is accompanied by an atmospheric, melancholic soundtrack.
