A strategy game reminiscent to some extent of chess. The arena of the competition is a chessboard consisting of 81 fields. Two armies (black and white), composed of a dozen or so different pawns, compete with each other.

Archon is an original and interesting strategy game, which was created in 1983 with eight-bit microcomputers from Atari and with time has been converted to most popular hardware platforms, including PCs.

At first glance, Free Fall Associates' product resembles chess. Just like in the most famous board game, in Archon there is a chessboard, although here it is a bit bigger, because it consists of 81 and not 64 square fields. Both games are also connected by the fact that two armies (black and white), composed of several different pawns, face each other to compete.

However, this is where the similarities end. Instead of traditional figures, Archon features mythical creatures and characters (such as mantikors, goblins, knights, wizards and jinnas), which are characterized by unique properties. Each pawn can move in any direction on the board, using the action points assigned to it. Some creatures can also fly, thus ignoring the units standing in their way.
