Plot
The main protagonist of Aragami is the titular ghost who is able to control shadows. He was summoned by Yamiko – a girl imprisoned in the Kyuryu fortress. She needs the help of Aragami to escape this place. During the game, the players discover the past of the protagonist and learn about his relations with Yamiko.
The story told in Nightfall concentrates on two assassins – Shinobu and Hyo. In order to save their companion who is about to be sacrificed in a forbidden ritual, they embark on a pursuit of the mysterious Alchemist.
Mechanics
Aragami: Shadow Edition was inspired by genre classic like Tenchu series and by newer games like Dishonored series and Mark of the Ninja. The gameplay focuses on traveling through large locations and hiding in shadows (the color of the cloak of the protagonist shows how well he is hidden). The players must pass behind enemies or silently eliminate them.
A direct confrontation usually ends tragically for Aragami. However, he posses many paranormal abilities. The protagonist is a true shadows master – he can use them to create hideouts to which he can teleport, he can summon his clones to distract the enemies or he can even create small black holes near the hostiles. The Nightfall expansion introduces three additional techniques that are making it easier to complete four new missions that take place in grim cities and snowy valleys.
Game modes
Aragami: Shadow Edition can be played alone or with another player in the cross-platform multiplayer mode.
Technical aspects
When working on Aragami: Shadow Edition, the developers didn’t introduced any changes to the graphics of the basic game. Despite that, the three-dimensional graphics of the game are still looking nice, especially thanks to the cel-shading style they use.
