Aquamarine is an indie game released by Hitcents studio which has developed such games as Draw a Stickman: Epic or Battlepillars. This time sci-fi adventure awaits us in the form of adventure game and roguelike, where as a young woman we have to learn the secrets of an unknown planet.
Plot
In Aquamarine we take on the role of a woman who travels alone, and all we know about her is that she is called The Seeker. During one of her journeys across the universe, her ship receives a strange signal that disrupts its proper operation, forcing her to make an emergency landing in an escape pod on a water-covered and unexplored planet. She has to find the damaged ship and find a way to repair it in order to return home and find out why she was brought to this planet and who is behind it.
Mechanics
Aquamarine combines typical elements for point and click games - from the control scheme with the use of a mouse, to the numerous puzzles and riddles to be solved and the way of interacting with numerous objects, but also roguelike, in which we have to take care of our survival by collecting the necessary resources and ingredients. The game is also heavily focused on exploring the planet, both its surface and what lies at the bottom of its ocean. And, as the planet has not been explored before, we have to learn about both the fauna and the flora in order to know what we can safely consume and what creature is better to avoid due to its aggressive behaviour.
Depending on the actions performed, the work of the camera changes. During the exploration we observe everything from an isometric view, so we can explore the terrain more freely and examine the beings living there. In turn, after returning to the base, where the heroine can make upgrades, research and eat various dishes, everything is shown through animated, interactive boards.
The game also features the ability to plant crops you've discovered and the option to upgrade your escape pod with additional functions to make exploration easier and more fun.
Technical aspects
Aquamarine is a 2D game inspired by science-fiction comics from the 1970s and 1980s.
