Apsulov: End of Gods is an action adventure game with elements of survival horror developed by the independent Swedish team Angry Demon Studio, whose portfolio includes a genre-related game Unforgiving: A Northern Hymn.
Plot
Apsulov: End of Gods takes us to an original universe where advanced technology mixes with Nordic mythology. In search of new resources, mankind dug too deep and finally reached a giant temple where Yggdrasil, the tree containing passages to other worlds, and a powerful artifact buried there centuries ago by the gods, were hidden.
During the game, we play the role of a woman affected by amnesia, who wakes up in this terrifying place on an operating table. Although initially the main goal of the heroine is to leave the temple as soon as possible, over time she starts to discover the truth about her identity and deepen her knowledge of the mysteries of this place. In this way, our character gets involved in an intrigue revolving around supernatural forces.
Mechanics
Observing the action from FPP, in Apsulov: End of Gods we are primarily concerned with exploration of temples and the worlds that Yggdrasil provides access to. Apart from exploration, an important role is played by solving environmental puzzles and searching for artifacts that enable us to move the plot forward. Things are complicated by opponents borrowed from Nordic beliefs, against which we are initially completely defenceless; for this reason we must sneak past them and hide from their sight. With time, however, we get a cybernetic arm called Jarngreipr, which can be used as a weapon shooting energy beams; it is also useful for solving some of the puzzles. Since the places we visit engulfed in darkness, we often make use of "Sight", a special mode of seeing that enables the heroine to see the secrets hidden in the darkness.
Technical aspects
Apsulov: End of Gods is powered by the Unreal Engine technology. The visuals of the game presents a decent level; the environment is refined, although the opponent designs and realistic lighting are particularly appealing. The atmosphere of being hounded is intensified by the soundtrack accompanying the game.
