Antikiller is a third person shootout based on an extremely popular Russian film from 2002 with the same title. This cinematographic picture, often referred to by domestic audiences as the best detective since the collapse of the Soviet Union, has had two sequels.
The plot of the game is practically no different from its silver screen prototype. A former policeman, Major Korenew after his release, after several years in prison he learns that his friends from the unit were murdered and that the informal power in Moscow was seized by Shaman and Vane, introducing total chaos. The rampant lawlessness and the desire to avenge colleagues forces the protagonist to take appropriate action. Of course, order in the city can only be achieved using methods well known to criminals.
The action takes place in the whole Russian capital, and bloody skirmishes take place not only on the space of docks or factories, but also on the streets, where casual passers-by are swarming. In clashes with opponents, the hero uses a large arsenal of weapons, with a classic gun at the forefront. His opponents can hide behind benches, trees or cars, and in case of problems they organize themselves into groups, shield each other and call each other's meals. Each of the ten levels is preceded by a sequence from the film to explain the current events. In addition, the developers made it possible to play two other key characters (e.g. the mafia boss), thus giving the full spectrum of the conflict.
As far as visual setting is concerned, it is rather uncomplicated, but it reflects well the reality of Russia at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Both the appearance of the city and its elements (e.g. car brands) were presented in accordance with the reality of the time.
