Anna: Extended Edition Description
Anna: Extended Edition, released on PC, X360 and PS3, is an improved version of Anna, released in 2012 on PC. Dreampainters, the developers of the game, has followed feedback from the players, who asked for more locations, additional puzzles and, of course, improved graphics and a changed interface.
Plot
Anna: Extended Edition takes place in the Italian part of the Alps, near an old sawmill located near the village of Champoluc. As a man plagued by the nightmares associated with this place, we must discover the mystery of a building haunted by the titular Anna, a kind of poltergeist. The story presented here is full of ambiguities, which intensifies the unique, dark atmosphere. Interestingly, the script is based on old legends told to Dreampainters' employees by the villagers.
Mechanics
Anna: Extended Edition is a first-person point-and-click adventure, so the fun is mainly about exploring the sawmill area and solving puzzles. We can interact with found objects - collect them or use them to move the plot forward. All locations have been maintained in a horror atmosphere and are changing as the plot progresses. Puzzles often refer to dark rituals and reoccurring symbols, while presenting a quite demanding difficulty level. The game itself is quite short, but this is compensated by the three different endings which depend on our made at specific moments.
Technical aspects
Anna: Extended Edition offers three-dimensional graphics developed on the Unity engine. The authors accurately recreated the real locations based on their photos and videos. The gothic band Chanty is responsible for making the soundtrack.
