The second installment in a series of RTS games originating from 2006. Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades lets us develop and equip our troops and features changing weather conditions affecting the battlefield.
Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades is a real-time strategy game and the second installment in a series originating from 2006. Unlike its predecessor, which was developed by World Forge, this game was created by Jotasoft Studios, a team originating from the modding scene which acquired the rights to the franchise; they're also responsible for the remaster of the first game, Ancient Wars: Sparta Definitive Edition.
Mechanics
Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades is set in the medieval times. The player must lead their chosen faction, such as the Arabs, Crusaders, Byzantine Empire, Mongols or Russians, to victory.
Each faction differs in terms of aesthetics, available buildings and units. They have unique structures that provide various bonuses, as well as heroes and units with special skills.
The player must focus on resource gathering, expanding their headquarters, recruiting troops and battling on land and sea. The game is real-time, requiring good tactics, adapting our actions to the capabilities of the enemy army and the weather (which affects gameplay).
Units develop over time, gaining new skills and better equipment, meaning losing them is always painful.
Game modes
Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades supports singleplayer and online multiplayer (cooperative and competitive). The game includes several story campaigns letting us participate in historical battles and events, as well as different modes and challenges to test ourselves against the adaptive AI or other players.
