AirMech Wastelands is another game developed by an independent studio Carbon Games. Contrary to previous games of this developer, the new title is an action RPG enriched with RTS features.

Plot

AirMech Wastelands takes place in the universe known from the previous AirMech games. The game presents a dystopian future in which the modern civilization is on the brink of fall due to a tragic conflict. The war destroyed the eastern and the western coast of America. Those who survived are living in the center of the continent. During the game, the players assume the role of one of the few survivors who can control the titular AirMechs. The protagonist becomes promoted as the game progresses and he gradually becomes the leader of the local community. His objective is to determine the cause of the constant attacks on men.

Mechanics

The action in AirMech Wastelands is presented from an isometric perspective. Before starting the game, the players are creating their character. Then, they are exploring a large, open world, completing various quests, and fighting enemies. The battles are fought in real time by using the titular robot. It’s a powerful machine that can fight on land and in the air (by transforming into a plane). The game also features missions in which the players must act quietly or sneak pass enemies. In these missions, the players aren’t controlling the AirMech, but rather, the protagonist.

As the players progress through the game, they gain experience points and improve statistics and skills of the protagonist. Parts of the AirMech can be upgraded as well – new weapons can be bought from merchants or obtained by completing objectives. The players can also lead armies that are gradually becoming bigger. They participate in battles with the enemies and they are becoming a valuable support in combat - especially against powerful bosses.

Game modes

AirMech Wastelands can be played alone or with other players in cooperation mode. In both cases, an internet connection is required – the game cannot be played offline.

Technical aspects

Players who played previous entries in the AirMech series can transfer their progress and achievements to AirMech Wastelands. As a bonus for such operation, players will obtain exclusive equipment that can be used in AirMech Strike.
