AirMech Strike is a hybrid that combines elements from action and RTS games, developed by the independent Carbon Games – a studio established by developers who worked on the critically acclaimed game called Fat Princess. The game was published in 2012 and based on the free-to-play business model with optional microtransactions. Initially, the game was known as AirMech – six years later, an enhanced version called AirMech Strike was published.
Plot
The action of AirMech Strike is set in the future when the world has become an arena of the so-called "Great War". This conflict has not yet ended, and those who managed to survive are still fighting using inventions created from old and forgotten technology. Among these inventions, there are the AirMechs – powerful war machines that can assume the form of fighters and walkers.
Mechanics
In AirMech Strike, players observe the action from the top-down perspective. The game revolves around multiplayer battles, in which one is tasked with destroying enemy's headquarters. To do so, one has to conquer minor bases and develop them. Using the resources provided by these bases, players can then recruit new units including infantry, armored vehicles, and aircrafts. The game ends when a player manages to conquer or destroy all enemy bases. For each victory, players earn experience points that can be spent to develop their armies.
Unlike most RTS games, in AirMech Strike players control a single unit – an AirMech that as an aircraft can move ally units and attack enemy air forces, while as a mech can fight ground targets. Players issue generic orders to remaining units, such as "attack" or "defend" – the rest is managed by the Artificial Intelligence that selects the targets.
Game modes
As mentioned above, AirMech Strike features only the multiplayer mode. One can compete with other players (the game offers 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 modes) and cooperate with them in the battle against the forces controlled by the AI. There is also the Survival mode for up to four players, in which they have to fight consecutive enemy waves as well as special challenges that test the players' skills.
Technical aspects
AirMech Strike features colorful 3D visuals – this regards both the environments surrounding the battles and the units participating in the. Such solution allowed the developers to keep everything legible, and now players can follow the situation on the battlefield.
