Age of Wonders III: Golden Realms Description
Age of Wonders III: Golden Realms for PC is the first large expansion to the turn-based strategy Age of Wonders III. The expansion was developed by Triumph studio, the same team that created the basic version of the game.
Mechanics
The expansion introduces a new playable faction, Halflings. They have their own units, unique heroes and special mechanics based on luck that allow their units to avoid attacks if the unit is happy. The mini campaign that consists of three scenarios is focused on this race. During this campaign the player can help Halflings who survived a massacre in rebuilding their empire in an exotic realm and facing an ancient evil. Two stand-alone missions are available as well and can be played in single- and multiplayer mode.
The expansion contains many new locations such as the nest of snake-like Nag and ruins of an ancient civilization. More than twenty additional unit types will appear in battles – not only those from the Halfling army, bur sirens and Glutton monsters as well. The latter units are able to eat a whole squad at once. The developers also introduced 50 new artifacts.
Age of Wonders III: Golden Realms for PC also introduces changes to gameplay mechanics. Players can use the mystical city upgrades which depend on nearby locations with magic treasures. This increases the variety of the metropolis and makes their location even more important. In addition to that, each race received its own defensive building type. A new way for challenging other rulers was added – the so-called Imperial tasks. Reward is received by the side that completes specific tasks as first – for example builds an eternal city. A new winning condition was added as well – players must obtain structures with ancient seals and hold them for long enough time.
